MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - The Monroe Chamber of Commerce has come out in full support of  the proposed Ouachita Parish Mandatory Trash Ordinance No. 9004.

In making the announcement in its newsletter, the board said that litter and illegal dumping are a major problem in our region and it is costing the tax payers thousands of unnecessary dollars.

The article went on to say that in Ouachita Parish alone we spend around $200,000 per year on litter and illegal dumping. Such dumping creates drainage, health, environmental and economic development problems in our community. Most municipalities in Louisiana, including Monroe and West Monroe, require residents to utilize a garbage collection and disposal service.

Bottom line: the Chamber urges the Ouachita Parish Police Jury to pass the ordinance.
