Morehouse Parish Homicide: Remembering Bill McCready

Posted: Updated:

MOREHOUSE PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Two homicides in one week in Bastrop, one Sunday and another Friday morning.

Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation Friday tonight.

79 year old Bill McCready was found dead at his home, and his friends are asking why.

Bill Thrape worked with McCready and says, "he's gone but why it just seems so senseless and useless."

Thrape worked with McCready for years at the international paper company before McCready retired.

Thrape says, "why anybody would want to harm Bill McCready, I have no idea."

McCready was a life long resident of Bastrop, and friends say he was a loving and caring person.

Jerri Bridges was neighbors with McCready for 38 years.

He says, "all the neighbors love him you know, but everybody that lives here have lived here for years, and everybody know one another."

James Cummins was also McCready's neighbor for 50 years.

He says, "I'd go by every morning, and I would knock on the door and he would hollar come in here boy, and I would just go in and drink coffee with him, it's just, that's all I can tell you."

Morehouse Parish Sheriff Deputies were called to McCready's home around 9 Friday morning, after a neighbor went to check on McCready and found him dead.

Morehouse Parish Sheriff Mike Tubbs says McCready lived alone, and was able to get around fine.

Sheriff Tubbs says McCready's truck was found about a mile from his home.

He says, "we located that vehicle early this morning blocking the street, the vehicle was removed, we've since taken it into custody for evidence."

Sheriff Tubbs doesn't believe this was random.

He says, "this one again will probably not come down to just a random act of someone going around banging on the door, often times the motives in these will become very clear at some point."

Thrape says,"he was just a super super guy."

Thrape says he will miss his friend, and may never understand why his life was cut short.

The state police crime scene unit is processing the crime scene.

McCready's body was sent to little rock for an autopsy.
