Holiday events for your weekend

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, WEST MONROE, LA. (KNOE 8 News) - The only place you have to look for holiday events happening this weekend is right here at home.

There's plenty of holiday cheer to go around, most of it free of charge and, at some events, you'll even have a chance to give back.

If parade floats full of outhouses and clotheslines are right up your alley, head on down to Bawcomville for the 7th Annual Bawcomville Redneck Christmas Parade.

"It's unbelievable how many people I've seen take a boat and decorate a boat," Parade Organizer, Jack Clampit, said. "I really love the little racing lawnmowers. These things are zipping in and out."

Starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1st at Riser Elementary in Bawcomville, redneck floats will roll out for all to see.

Entry fees are $10 or one toy, as this entire parade is a local fundraiser.

"We started finding out there's a lot of kids that didn't have Christmas," Clampit said. "We needed some kind of means to raise funds so that we could buy toys for a lot of families."

But if a redneck christmas is too red for your neck, the Kiwanis Club of West Monroe is hosting its Annual Christmas Parade at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The "Home for the Holidays" Parade starts at First Baptist Church in West Monroe and will wind through Downtown Monroe and West Monroe.

Happening later Saturday night at 7 p.m. is the Monroe Renaissance Fireworks Extravaganza and there are multiple venues you can watch the fireworks at.

One is at the "Up on the Rooftop" party in Downtown Monroe.

There will be live music from 6 to 9 p.m. on top the Vantage ONB Tower parking garage.

Tickets are $30 a person, $50 a couple.

If you're short on cash, head over to "Antique Alley" in West Monroe for "Rockin' on the Alley."

It's free and features live music from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday.

Both parties are boasting the best area to watch Saturday night's fireworks.
