Former Ouachita Sheriff also facing ethics charges

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Former Ouachita Sheriff Royce Toney has now been hit with more charges, this time from the State Ethics Board.
The Board says that Toney knowingly and willfully "...failed to accurately disclose the purpose of the $30,000 expenditure to Mrs. Kim Leija contained on his February 11, 2010 annual campaign finance report and again on an amended report filed July 19, 2010."
Further, the Board charges that "Mrs. Leija, as the campaign manager, was to receive a check, for services rendered in the amount of $15,000 on November 30, 2009. Instead, Mrs. Leija was provided a check in the amount of $30,000 and was instructed by Sheriff Toney to negotiate the check, keep $15,000 and loan the additional $15,000 amount to Sheriff Toney.
According to the charge, the Sheriff knowingly failed to comply with the requirements of La. R.S. 18:1495.5B(12) when he failed to accurately disclose the purpose of the $30,000 expenditure to Mrs. Leija.
