NEW ORLEANS, La., (KNOE 8 News) - The Alabama fan who abused an unconscious LSU fan at the Superdome in New Orleans following the BCS football National Title game in January of this year has been sentenced.

Brian Downing of Smiths Station, Alabama got a dressing down from State District Judge Karen Herman before she sentenced him. During that dressing down, Judge Herman accused Downing of being a bully who permanently damaged someone else's life.

Prior to the sentencing, Downing declined to say anything. The judge then sentenced Downing to two years in prison as part of a plea deal.

He had pleaded guilty last month to two counts of obscenity after prosecutors dropped charges of sexual battery which could have resulted in his being sentenced to as much as 10 years in prison.
