WEST MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - West Monroe Police have arrested a suspect in a series of church burglaries.

Earlier this month, a burglary was reported at the North 7th Street St. Pascals Church. During the night of the 5th, someone entered the church and removed several items of value, then fled. Then, again on the 21st of this month, there was another burglary at the church. This time, the items taken were "traceable items".

This week, a suspect who has now been identified by police as 43-year-old Stanley D. Blackman of West Monroe, was located at a discount store in West Monroe attempting to make purchases with what appeared to be stolen monetary instruments taken in the original burglaries.

Blackman was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the West Monroe Police Department where he was interviewed by Detectives. Blackman denied having any knowledge of the burglaries.

However, police say several additional stolen items from the victim were located within his vehicle.

Blackman was booked into the West Monroe Correctional Center and charged with two counts of Illegal Possession of Stolen Property, three counts of Theft by Fraud and one count of Attempted Theft by Fraud. Blackman was subsequently transferred to the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center to await bond.
