Rayville murder trial to remain in Richland Parish

Posted: Updated:

RAYVILLE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - A state judge has ruled that the trial of the men accused of killing a Rayville police officer will remain in Richland Parish.

However, the jury--according to the ruling--will be selected from Ouachita Parish.

Anthony D. Oatis and Richard L. Long are being tried on 1st degree murder charges for the killing of Rayville Police Sgt. Thomas Alexander in 2010.

Overruling a defense objection that the crime didn't occur in Ouachita Parish, Judge Terry Dougherty ordered the change of venue for jury selection, citing the case's high profile as his reason.
