Murphy Foundation puts up $5 million

EL DORADO, Ar., (KNOE 8 News) - The Murphy Foundation has donated $5 million to help create an arts and entertainment district in El Dorado.
The foundation announced its gift a week after the El Dorado City Council pledged $9 million for the project.
A nonprofit group, El Dorado Festival and Events, Inc., hopes to create an arts and entertainment district that would bring in more than 250 performances from more than 35 events each year.
The group also plans a $50 million revamp of the Rialto Theatre to create The Southern Theatre Festival.
Madison Murphy, the president of the Murphy Foundation, says the planned district "will foster the culture of Southern arts and create a tremendous opportunity" for the area.
