BASTROP, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Holiday shopping sales continue Monday with "Cyber Monday."

Online sales are expected to double the national average from last year.

Cyber Monday is a popular day for many to do online shopping.

Simmons Sporting Goods in Bastrop has already seen an increase.

Store manager, Lindsey Simmons-Roberts says, "we have tons of online sales, about 60 percent more than we had last year."

Nation wide Americans are expected to spend more than $1 billion, 20-percent more than last year.

Simmons believes the trend is going toward online shopping, because of that, marketing was upped 20% specifically for online shopping.

She says, "people are shopping online more, that was important to us to let people know we have a website, and we wanted people to have that option rather than to come in the store."

Simmons says she believes the trend is going towards online shopping because it's as easy as getting a laptop and sitting on your couch.

She says, "we get it to them the next day so it's definitely an easy more convenient way for people to shop rather than going to a store and fighting the crowd, you know online shopping is just easier."

According to a comScore study, for this holiday season to date, more than $13 billion has been spent online nationally.

That's a 16-percent increase from last year.

We asked Simmons if she, herself, would be pulling out the credit card for Cyber Monday.

She says, "I definitely plan on shopping online I work here everyday so I don't get a lot of time to shop, so for the busy person it's definitely more convenient to shop online."

Simmons expects online shopping to continue to increase through the holiday season.

On Black Friday alone online sales were up 26% from the same day last year.
