Shooting investigated in Monroe neighborhood

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Neighbors on the 3900 block of Gerald Street are asking for of a police presence after a shooting.

"Just patrol more and keep an eye on the neighborhood," Neighbor Steven Williams said.

Williams says he rushed home from Morehouse Parish when he received word of shots fired. Monroe police are on the hunt for the gunmen as of Monday night. Officers say shortly after the 5:30 shooting, the suspect drove away in the victim's vehicle. A Gerald Street homeowner says gun fire has been common in the area.

"From Saturday starting, about 10 or 11 shots. Last night, about 2 o'clock we heard 5 or 6," Williams said.

"Although the confrontation seemed to have ended violently on Gerald Street, police say the heated argument began along Desiard Street at a gas station.

"They ended up at this location and shots were fired. The victim did suffer one gunshot wound to the stomach," Monroe Chief Quentin Holmes said.

The name of the victim has not been released. But police say he is expected to live and recover from his injuries. According to officers, the injured man and witnesses are being tight lipped about the incident.

Police are asking for your help in locating the suspect. They're looking for a black, 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, with a Tennessee license plate number D-7-6-4-8-Y.

Investigators are reminding residents, the suspect may be armed and dangerous. Police have yet to release any description of the suspect, since witnesses are not cooperating.
