Walking in a Window Wonderland

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Downtown Monroe is getting a face lift for the holidays as Monroe Renaissance presents "Walking in a Window Wonderland."

Monroe Renaissance has transformed storefronts on Desiard Street into a showcase of holiday art. Local artist, Libby Gifford, decorated each of the ten displays with unique interpretations of Christmas carols. Between South Grand and Third Street, you can see the fun installations made from recyclable materials.

"The idea was to do Christmas songs, so each window is based on a Christmas song," says Gifford, "and I wanted to take a non-traditional route with that."

Some materials used are maps for "Joy to the World" or various paint chips for "Blue Christmas."

"It's not just Christmas trees and garland, things you typically see," Gifford says, "Some ideas I came up with on my own, and some I've seen on the internet, or in other retail stores, and I put my own twist on that."

The art will be on display until after New Year's Day.
