Operation Christmas Child

Posted: Updated:

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Thousands of boxes are being loaded up to help give children all across the world a better Christmas.

Members of Fair Park Baptist Church were working to fill some of the last boxes Monday, before sending them to Operation Christmas Child.

Area Coordinator for Northeast Louisiana, Jane Peterson says, "these gifts will go to children in war torn countries, in poverty stricken areas."

Peterson says that's why projects like this are so important, it gives to those in need.

And it's also an opportunity for "children to help children."

Each year church members pick one special week to pack boxes, and the last day was Monday.

Groups from all over Northeast Louisiana collect items for the boxes and bring them to West Monroe, to be shipped.

Peterson says, "tooth brush and tooth paste, soap and wash cloth, and then they get some little toys like slinkies, yo-yo's jump ropes, and the little girls get jewelry like hair pieces, and different beads, and none of them have never seen these before."

They hope to collect 16,000 boxes.

The boxes will be sent to Atlanta Tuesday.
