MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - The expected pre-Thanksgiving drop in gas prices continued this past week--that's the good news. The bad news is that gas prices nationally, are still expected to come close to breaking the all time high price record for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Over the past week, we saw Louisiana prices drop another 4.3¢ a gallon, bringing us down to $3.18 a gallon. That compares to $3.43 nationally which is about 3¢ a gallon lower than it was nationally a week ago.
Including the change in gas prices in Louisiana during the past week, prices yesterday were 2.6 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago but are 32.1 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 26.4 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 6.5 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.
This week, a record number of travelers are expected to be driving rather than flying, given the problems the airlines are having right now.
