BATON ROUGE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - The Louisiana attorney general's office says it has "serious concerns" that LSU's governing board may have violated the open meetings law with its October vote to merge the positions of system president and chancellor of the flagship campus.
The Board of Supervisors announced Thursday that it will re vote at its December meeting on whether to consolidate the two jobs, after Attorney General Buddy Caldwell's office questioned whether the previous vote was handled properly.
Board members unexpectedly agreed at their October meeting to merge the jobs after hearing a presentation of a consultant's report suggesting a system-wide reorganization.
A vote on the merger had not been specifically listed on the board agenda, and several critics said the abrupt vote stifled public vetting and discussion of the idea.
