MONROE, La. (knoe 8 news) - The City of Monroe's Engineering Department head, Sinyale Morrison, has resigned.
Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo accepted her resignation, which was effective yesterday.
Mayor Mayo says, "she volunteeringly resigned and as she mentioned to me and in her letter she is pursuing other opportunities, and she is very excited about it and that had nothing to do with it as far as I am concerned."
Last year the state audit found several findings that showed Morrison may have violated state law by hiring an employee for a job he wasn't qualified for.
Then paid him over 50 thousand dollars a year, plus overtime, for a job auditors say he never performed.
He wasn't the only one.
The report shows poor payroll records allowed other workers to gather hundreds of hours of unapproved overtime pay.
Auditors say Morrison herself took over 40 hours off from work, but the time wasn't deducted from her leave.
She told auditors that the errors were mistakes with the payroll.
Now, assistant district attorney Cynthia Lasverphere says it took the Louisiana State Police a while to do their part of the investigation.
Lavespere says, "several months for them to gather the information and get that to us, we are planning to bring this case before the grand jury within 30 days, we are still however interview witnesses."
Morrison released this statement saying: "working with the City of Monroe has been a rewarding experience - over the last 13 years, I have enjoyed working with the engineering department team, and wish them every success in the future."
Mayor Mayo says for now they have Richard Paulus who is a city engineer, who he has a professional engineer degree.
He says they're working quickly to fill the position.
