WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - It's holiday shopping season for many of you, but will the state of the economy have an impact on spending?
One business owner on antique alley says she is excited about the holiday season, and with the projections they've made it should be a good one.
Serendipity owner, Tonya Hamilton says, "we're right on spot from what we had projected last year, we're up quite a bit so we're very excited about that and we continue to see the trends."
The economy may be down, but for proof that businesses are thriving in the twin cities, look no further than antique alley.
Hamilton says, "since I've been down here there have been no empty spaces on the alley any longer so I think that it's just a really good, time to be in the twin cities."
Some people said the amount spend during the holiday season would depend on who won the presidential election but some shoppers we spoke with say they don't think that's true.
Shopper Jeremy Antley says, "a lot of people based it on the elections, well I'm going to spend more if this person got it or this person didn't I don't that is going to change anything I think people are going to continue to spend what they would've spent anyways."
Shopper Debbie Luffey says, "we just all have to hope that it's going to be stronger, I think we all have to be optimistic and doing things such as shopping locally and trying to hope local businesses hopefully that will help to strengthen the economy as well."
Hamilton agrees and says all business owners on antique alley have high hopes for the holiday season.
She says, "I think it's a really positive attitude with the owners, especially local store owners, I think you see a lot more positive outlook there."
Hamilton says there have been some rough patches, but sales are picking up.
She hopes that trend continues well through the holiday season.
