Local Republicans react to losing the presidential election

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Local Republicans gathered at the Revolution Park Raceway to watch the results roll in.

Average voters as well as local and state public officials waited on the results together. They cheered when Mitt Romney won the state of Louisiana. But the mood turned quickly somber, when CBS News announced Obama would win the election. Raceway owner Gus Campbell says he wish the night would have turned out differently.

"I'm going to feel better tomorrow but right now I don't feel to good about us as a country. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong but that's just the way I feel. I'm very disappointed in us as Americans and what we let ourselves become and what we've done tonight."

The Republicans say they will try again in 2016.
