Obama wins re-election; election night is without many surprises

Posted: Updated:

Monroe, La (KNOE 8 News) - For the second time in history and the first since Jefferson, Madison and Monroe, American voters have elected three, two-term presidents.

President Obama won re-election Tuesday night after a very close race at the polls.

In a deadlocked evening Tuesday, it appeared that the race could swing either way. It's a night that University of Louisiana-Monroe Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says included very few, if any surprises.

"There are no surprises. What has been amazingly accurate going into this election season are the polls. The polls and the election results are almost synchronous.", explains Stockley, "The only thing we've seen is maybe a few races here and there than we expected."

He explains that because technology has taken a strong hold over today's voting processes, results are quicker, more accurate and more predictable than ever.
