Runoff Election Ahead for Monroe City Council District 3

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - It's been a long race for city council and for 2 district 3 candidates, it's not over.

Democrats Betty Blakes and Juanita Woods are in a runoff after Tuesday nights election.

Betty was the front runner for most of the race, while the other 4 candidates maintained less than 20 percent of the votes each.

When the last votes were tallied, Blakes and Woods were declared top candidates.

The two are proud of their campaigns, and are ready to take on the race ahead.

Betty Blakes says, "we ran a good campaign, we will continue to run one and all we doing is waiting and hoping that next time voters will go out and prove who's the best."

Juanita Woods says, "I'm going to call all of my friends that were running against me and I'm going to ask them for their support and hope we're going to get together and they're going to send their support my way and we're going to come out victorious."

Another month of campaigning is ahead.

The runoff election will be on Saturday, December 8th.
