BASTROP, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Bastop Police say 18 year old Joseph Sanders of Bastrop is dead after being hit by an empty log truck.
Bastrop Police Chief Downey Black says the call came in around 7:45 Tuesday morning.
The accident happened on the corner of West Madison and Pruitt in Bastrop.
Black says the man was attempting to cross the street and walked into the path of an empty log truck, striking the trailer.
Police believe the victim was using his cell phone and wasn't aware of the truck.
The driver says he didn't realize anything was wrong because the trailer struck the male.
The Shamrock Gas Station owner witnessed the whole event, and says he's in shock.
Muhammad Jovindha says, "you become a family when it's a regular people, regular customers you know everyday, morning, evening, 20 times a day you see a person so you're attached to them. So, seeing something like that it is sad, so I hope and pray for his family."
The driver is not facing any charges at this time.
