Union Parish voters prep before hitting the polls

FARMERVILLE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Voters are doing their homework before they head to the polls Tuesday in Union Parish.

The Mayor, five Aldermen, and the Town Marshall are all running for re-election in Farmerville. Each candidate faces opposition putting pressure on local voters.

Other stressful items on the ballot are the nine amendments to the Louisiana Constitution and two parish policies.

"You really have to have a cheat sheet or you'll go in there and you'll see your amendments and your like Ahhh! Which one was yes? Which one was no?" says Starla Brazzel.

She and her daughter have been working on their voting cheat sheets all day.

"We had about a 14 percent turn out for early voting which is very high for our parish," says Dodi Eubanks, Union Parish Clerk of Court.

Farmerville native, Willie Ray Hendricks, says he voted early to get it over with.

"So much going on, so much nastiness, too. We like to just go ahead on and have our say and sit back and watch what other people have to say," says Hendricks.

Hendricks chose the early route, but did have some trouble understanding the ballot.

"I finally got it all sorted out," says Hendricks, "with all those amendments and everything to the constitution, it was kind of confusing a little bit."

Whether they cast their ballots early or are heading to the polls Tuesday, Brazzel and many agree they are ready for the election to be over.
