Last Minute Election Preps

Posted: Updated: Nov 5, 2012 06:30 PM

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Ready or not, we're less than 24 hours away from voting for a president.

Ouachita Parish has been busy delivering all the voting machines to their precincts, and the commissioners say they have all the information needed to make this election run smoothly.

Now the Ouachita Parish Clerk of Court, Louise Bond, is reminding you the most important thing to bring with you to the polls.

Bond says, "photo ID drivers license, state ID, anything with their picture on it."

She says a lot of people aren't sure which precinct they are suppose to vote at, and the Monroe Registrar of Voters Office only has three phone lines, but there are other ways of getting the information.

Bond says, "if you're not sure of where you are suppose to be to vote, please use that 800 number and call that ahead of time if you cannot get into the registrar of voters office, use the 800 number and they will guide you and tell you exactly what precinct you're registered in."

She says there is a time limit in place to make sure the lines move quickly, "the voters have three minutes to vote, to cast their votes, and you can see with an election like this if everyone was allowed to stay in the booth as long as they wanted to, you know we never would be able to get everything done."

The polls will be opened until 8:00 Tuesday evening, and bond says as long as you are in line by 8 you will be able to vote.

Bond says, "if you are in line at 8:00 what they do is take a commissioner and put that commissioner at the back of the line, so that no one can come in after that to vote, so they will clear out their precinct, and start closing up the machines and get all their paperwork ready to bring down to our office."

She says she wants to remind the disabled, by law, they will be allowed to move to the front of the line.

Again if you have any questions about where you're registered to vote, call the Registrar of Voters Office in Monroe at (318)-327-1436.

That line does fill up quickly, so you can also call the 1-800-883-2805.
