Louisiana State Troopers head to New Jersey

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Dozens of Louisiana State Troopers are traveling to New Jersey to provide additional support in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Twenty-five troopers from across the state left Monroe at 3:00am Sunday morning. Six of those are from Troop F in Monroe. Many of these officers have been trained to work in recovery situations.

This deployment comes as a response to a request for out-of-state law enforcement support from New Jersey State Police. After super storm Sandy, New Jersey officials need the extra help while they assess the extent of damage.

"The State of Louisiana certainly understands the importance of emergency support during a time of crisis." says Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police, "The New Jersey State Police was one of the first state police agencies which readily responded when the citizens of Louisiana needed assistance following the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita."
