MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A memorial service for local philanthropist, Kitty Degree, was held today at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Colleagues, family and friends of Kitty Degree filled the St. Francis Auditorium at the Kitty Degree School of nursing to honor its namesake.

Degree touched many lives in her almost 90 years. She was an avid supporter of the university and according to her friends, she believed contributing to schools was a contribution to our future.

One of her closest friends, Cindy Rogers, gave Degree's eulogy at the service and says, "She wrote a lot of checks, to a lot of different organizations, but that won't be her legacy. The lives she touched and changed, that's her legacy."

ULM President Nick Bruno says the university can't thank Degree enough for her service.

"She's been a tremendous supporter of our university, our students, our graduates," says Bruno, "When you look around our campus from the College of Pharmacy to the library to campus police to speech and language pathology, she's contributed to all of those and made them better."
