Alert: tax notification not what it seems

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - An email that's been mass-mailed out is not what it was designed to appear to be. The email reads:

"Dear Business taxpayer,
Hereby you are notified that your Income Tax Refund Appeal id#4233246 has been REJECTED. If you believe the IRS did not properly estimate your case due to a misunderstanding of the facts, be prepared to provide additional information. You can obtain the rejection details and re-submit your appeal by using the instructions in the attachment.

Hours of Operation: thursday sunday, 6:00 p.m. 6:30 p.m. your local time (Alaska & Hawaii follow Pacific Time)."

Notice that the address from which this email was sent is: MyUPSGlobalFreightServices and the number listed to call is a 900 number for which you will be billed $1.69 a minute.

The IRS does not send notices like this via email.
