WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - An Amber Alert and murder case in Tyler, Texas all comes to an end in West Monroe.

It was at the end of Wellerman Road, in West Monroe where an Amber Alert ended, and a murder investigation has just begun.

West Monroe Police Cpl. Jade Gabb says, "traveling down the interstate, just going through the city we have no indication that the Mr. Calvert was staying or had any business, inside the city limits of West Monroe."

42 year old James Calvert, wanted for the murder of his ex-wife, who police found dead on the carport of her home late Wednesday.

Shortly after police believe she was murdered, they say Calvert ran with the couple's four year old son, Lucas.

A routine traffic stop in West Monroe is why police became suspicious.

Gabb says, "Mr. Calvert made an abrupt movement, crossed the center line, almost passed the exit he was trying to take, and took the downing pines exit, this reckless operation prompted the officers to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle at which point Mr. Calvert did not stop or yield to the responding officers."

The police chase lasted for around five minutes, and ended here on Wellerman Road, when calvert reached the dead end.

Gabb says, "once the suspect was on the dead end street, he had no other avenues of escape officers were able to surround the vehicle. Mr. Calvert did not heed officers warnings or verbal commands, he was taken out of the vehicle and into custody by force."

That's when police found Lucas, unharmed and okay in the back seat.

Police are working to get everyone back to Texas, meanwhile a community is working to get their lives back together.

Calvert is being held at the OCC on $2,000,000 bond.

West Monroe Police say they're only holding Calvert, until he's extradited to Tyler Texas, on a capital murder charge.
