MONROE, LA. (KNOE 8 News) - While the 7 a.m. murky morning moon was still hanging in the sky, more than 300 Pro and Co-Anglers arrived at the Ouachita River on Thursday, hanging on to the hope that this is their year.

This year's Everstart Championship Series in fishing brought in anglers from across the country, competing for $50,000 and a berth in the 2013 Forrest Wood Cup.

"12 pounds a day is about what it's going to take to make that Top 20," Tournament Director, Ron Lappin, said.

For West Monroe angler, Jim Dillard, he's hoping his hometown knowledge will give him an edge.

"The fish are tough to get the bite sometimes," Dillard said. "I'm going to put myself in a position, in an area that holds big fish to try to win. I'm not fishing for second. I'm not fishing for points. I'm not fishing for anything but the biggest bag of fish I can weigh in every day."

By 8 in the morning, every angler was speeding to their favorite spot on the river and so were KNOE 8 News's cameras, capturing scenes of anglers battling the cold and the fog to bring in a big one.

$200,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs but a huge cash prize is also coming for Ouachita Parish.

"We've been in a lot of businesses here," Lappin said. "We're using local donut shops to make our coffee and donuts. We're all going out to eat. All these anglers are spending a lot of money. We'll bring over $2 million into this economy here in a 10-day period."

The championship ends on Sunday, Nov. 4th so anglers have until then to catch as many fish as they can in the Ouachita but only time will tell who will come out on top.

Thursday and Friday's weighing in of all the fish will happen at Forsythe Park at 3:30 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday's final weigh-ins will be at the Walmart on Louisivlle Ave. at 4 p.m.
