City council approves airport resolution

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Monroe city council called a special meeting Wednesday in order to meet a state deadline.

The council voted to approve a capital improvement program for the Monroe Regional Airport. It outlines projected airport expenses for the next five years. The airport is requesting 1.3 million dollars each year in federal funds and 3 million dollars a year from the states. That's about 20 million dollars for next five years.

"Some of the projects we're looking at doing is rehabbing our ramp area and also rehabbing our taxi ways. Those are two of the major projects planned for next year" said Phillips.

No match is required by the city. Phillips says the airport's primary runway, which has been closed for renovations, will be open by Monday.
