Domestic violence awareness vigil

RUSTON, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Dozens of people Tuesday night were remembering loved ones who were taken away from them as a result of domestic violence. One Lincoln Parish group is ending Domestic Violence Awareness month with a candle light vigil. The Ruston Domestic Abuse Resistance team, hosting the vigil, called out the names of victims during the lighting of the candles. Also, survivors were able to share their stories. One woman said victims should learn to speak out in the early stages of this crime.

"Go talk to someone, I don't care if it is your best friend, if it's a family member, if it's a co-worker, someone," Pam Dance said. "That's the first step. You have to start talking about it and realizing it that you are in that situation."

The awareness month may be ending but the teaching isn't. To find out more about tips to help victims through domestic violence, click this link for their website: DART.
