DELHI, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Oil and Gas company Denbury Resources is paying Richland Parish for roads they've torn up, but many of the roads haven't been fixed.

Over the past nearly two years, long time Hutchinson road neighbor, Bertha Gilbert has seen the paved road in front of her home torn up and replaced with bumpy gravel.  "I don't like it, but you have to live with it" said Bertha Gilbert.

Neighbors say that the rocks on the road that they have to drive over every day are damaging their vehicles. "Sometimes it'll hit your windshield too, I've got a crack in mine now" said Gilbert. The roads were damaged by Oil and Gas company Denbury Resources. The company has since given the parish nearly 400 thousand dollars to fix the roads.

But repairs have been slow and few and neighbors are fed up. "We've complained, complained, complained, the guy at the police juror can tell you we've called and called and called" said Gilbert.

Police juror Jesse Washington is frustrated too. "It's disturbing to them and to me" said Washington and the police juror thinks the process should be sped up.

"My number one frustration is the length of time these roads have been torn up and nothing has been done to get them repaired" said Washington and he's calling the rest of the jury to action. "I just think it's time for the jury to wake up and realize what's going on, how we are crippling the people of this whole parish by just sitting there and going along with the wrong program".

Parish superintendent Joey Evans says the police jury is considering contracting out the work to speed up the repairs. But first they want to figure the cost by advertising for  bids and Evans says so far no one has turned in bids.

The issue is on the police jury agenda on Monday, November 5th at 6 p.m. All concerned neighbors are encouraged to attend.
