Popular Halloween Costumes

Posted: Updated:

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Halloween is creeping up on us and some people are still scrambling to find the perfect costume.

Shoppers were out in full force Friday and are expected to be throughout the weekend looking for the right costume, and it's not an easy process.

Christy Lowe says, "I don't ever want to do what everyone else does, I like to do my own."

So what costumes have been the most popular this year?

The mad hatter has been a popular costume this year, but so have some local celebrities.

The Costume Shop owner, Barbara Sims says, "the Duck Dynasty is the most I think there will be in beards, hair, and bandanas this year, I have reordered three times on them, between that and your super heroes and your Wonder Woman."

We asked Sims what has been the hardest costume to put together this year, she says, "probably telling them how to make themselves into a bird."

Sims says many people are wanting to be Big Bird this year after the first presidential debate, and the candidates themselves are becoming popular Halloween costumes.

Others come in with a more unique style, Josie Herbert says, "my husband is going to be Henry the 8th and I'm going to be Anne Boleyn."

Some people say you get too old to dress up, but one mom disagrees, and says they children love it.

Lowe says, "they enjoy me dressing up with them, and being a kid with them because you can't be a kid with them everyday of the year, but Halloween you can."

Sims says it's always entertaining to see what people come up with.

Ouachita Parish Sheriff Jay Russell wants to remind everyone of a few safety tips this Halloween.

1. Make sure your child has something reflective on their costume.

2. Never let your kids trick-or-treat alone.

3. Make sure there is nothing that may impair your child's vision.
