WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The West Monroe High School band is making their way to London. The Rebel Band has been invited to march and play in the 2014 New Year's Day parade. A dignitary from the United Kingdom invited the group to play among 8,000 other performers. The groups band director accepted the invitation and now the fundraising campaign begins.
Dignitary Catherine Longhorn also took a tour of the campus. She told students what she thought about their school and sports program.
"You have a pretty big school here, very impressed so far," Longhorn said. "And they're still practicing their American football out there."
The audience laughed after Longhorn told them about the difference between England's football, known as soccer in the U.S., and the American version of football.
