MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Monroe elementary school is participating in a state-wide mock election. Dozens of Jefferson Elementary School kids sat in front of computers Wednesday to vote for a presidential candidate.

The aim of the "pretend election" is to teach kids the importance of voting and the democratic process. Third grader Markevia Lampkis says she knew exactly who to vote for, "I voted for Barack Obama because I think it's important to vote."

The voting will continue until October 31st and the results will be announced on November first.
