Dog Saves Family's Life

EL DORADO, Ar. (KNOE 8 News) - One family's four legged friend woke them up just in time to save their lives.

Britani Murphey is talking about the family dog "Blizzard," who turned into the family hero early Monday morning, when his barking woke her up.

Murphey says, "I went to the front door to see if he was okay but when I saw the flames and the smoke I didn't want to open the door."

Murphey says "Blizzard's" bark was different this time and she knew something was wrong."

Murphey, "it was a different bark, I mean it was not even a bark it was a yelping, screeching."

"Blizzard" was yelping because the front porch collapsed on him after the house caught fire.

Murphy says, thankfully she heard "Blizzard's" bark because the fire was close to where her daughter was sleeping.

She says, "you can see the bars through the window where, I mean her bed was right by the door, and window."

Murphey gives all the credit to their four-legged friend, "his yelping and everything, saved us our lives, and also our animals which gave us enough time to get out."

Murphey says she's thankful everyone was able to get out alive, including "Blizzard."

"Blizzard" received burns over a significant part of his body, but he is expected to recover from the injuries.

El Dorado Fire Department Chief Deputy says the fire started from hot ashes in a box on the porch.
