Pilots for Patients set to fly 1500th mission

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) – Thursday, private pilot Mark Robertson will be flying Joseph McKenzie to Houston for his weekly treatment at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. And this will be the Pilots for Patients of Monroe organization's historic 1500th mission.

Pilots for Patients is a Louisiana based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing air transportation free of charge for qualified patients and requesting agencies. A dedicated and compassionate group of staff and volunteers coordinate travel for patients going to and from their medical treatment facilities.

Founded in December 2007, Pilots for Patients flew its first mission on Jan. 14, 2008.

McKenzie is accompanied on flights by his wife, Darlene McKenzie. The McKenzies started flying with Pilots for Patients Jan. 13, 2012. They have been flown a total of 21 missions.
