WEST MONROE, LA. (KNOE 8 News) - On Wednesday, a former Lord Mayor of the City of Westminster, England, Catherine Longworth, will be at West Monroe High School to invite the Rebel Band to perform in the 2014 London New Year's Day Parade.

The annual celebration of the new year brings in 8,000 performers from across the globe.

Now, the Rebel Band will join those performers.

The parade carries an audience of 500,000 people and a global T.V. audience of tens of millions.

"We play because we love it," West Monroe High School Band Director, Robert Freeman, said. "To be able to share that with 500,000 people live in a parade is an amazing experience and to have tens of millions watching across Europe, it's one of the largest-rated television programs in Europe that day."

Out of the 180 members of the Rebel band, Freeman said he hopes to take at least 150 with him to London.

Following the official invitation at 4 p.m. at the high school, Freeman said their fundraising campaign will begin.

To give the band a call and help with fundraising, you can reach them at 318-388-4164.
