UPDATE:Driver broadsides police car

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Traffic is back to a normal flow at Desiard Street and Highway 165 South in Monroe after a driver struck a Monroe Police cruiser.

The crash happened just after 8:30 P.M. Friday, when police say the driver turned southbound on to the highway from Desiard Street and struck the police car.

Traffic was shut down in both directions on Desiard, and the on ramp to highway 165 south was also closed for a short time.  The street and onramp were reopened after 9 P.M.

The driver and officer were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. They are now out of the hospital and recovering at home.

Investigators said the police officer is not at fault for the accident.
