MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Monroe Chamber of Commerce voted to endorse two items on the November 6th ballot late Friday afternoon.
Chamber President Sue Nicholson tells KNOE, the chamber has voted to support amendment number eight, which offers tax exemptions to non-manufacturing businesses. "We're supporting it because the measure will bring high wage jobs to the area" Nicholson said via telephone.
Also endorsed is the local option for school board term limits, where each Louisiana school district will get a chance to decide whether its school board members should have a three term limit. "In 12 years a lot can change and sometimes you get people who have entrenched ideas and they just don't want to budge. Having term limits, allows the opportunity for new people to run for office and to bring new ideas to the table" Sue told KNOE in April when the chamber first endorsed the legislation. The school board term limits wouldn't go into effect until January 1st of 2014.
As for the remaining amendments, the chamber remains neutral.
