Monroe unveils new water plant generator

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The City of Monroe's water treatment plant now has a back up power source. The city cut the ribbon on a new half million dollar generator on Tuesday.

If the city loses power, the generator can now keep the water plant running for 12 extra hours, greatly reducing the risk of boil advisories.

City Public Works Director Tom Janway says the generator was requested by the Department of Environmental Quality and State Health Department. "This generator will provide power to operate the pumps to transfer that water into the distribution system, so that we can maintain pressure on the system during the event of a short term type power failure." said Tom Janway.

It took a year for the city to finish the generator project.
