MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The search continues in Monroe for a new superintendent of schools. During a search committee meeting this Monday morning, community focus groups were selected to help screen candidates. Business leaders, religious groups, teachers and unions will be represented in the groups.

Committee chair Rodney McFarland says the community needs to play a big role in the selection process. "I've been on the board now for 10 years and this is the third superintendent that I'm electing. It's time out for us to stop getting superintendents and letting them go. We need to continue to have someone here to continue supporting our children and to help our district." said Monroe city school Rodney McFarland.

The focus groups will meet and prepare on February 19th to help narrow down the candidates.

McFarland says he hopes to have a candidate in place by July 1st.
