MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Runners cross the finish line of the 5th Annual Monroe Fire Department 5K, drawing Fire Prevention Week to a close.
The Monroe Fire Department invited all runners and walkers to their annual 5K. About 130 people registered for the race that was the finale to the department's week-long activities promoting fire prevention.
Fire Chief Jimmie Bryant says the race raises awareness in the Twin Cities each year.
"One life we lost this week, is one too many," says Chief Bryant, "hopefully we can just take this week, this month, and enhance fire safety."
Chief Bryant says he hopes raising awareness and passing along some simple tips will help prevent fires, especially those that are fatal.
