Hunter dies in accidental fall

Posted: Updated:

UNION PARISH, La., (KNOE 8 News) - A Union Parish man has fallen to his death while deer hunting in Union Parish.

Otis E. Davis Jr., 69, was getting down off his ladder stand at the Buckshot Hunting Club near Haile about dark when the top strap broke, causing him to fall 20 feet.

Union Parish sheriff's investigators said Davis was able to make a cell phone call to a hunting partner, but succumbed to internal injuries where he fell.

Investigators said Davis, who was bow hunting, had followed all safety precautions but the ladder stand malfunctioned and apparently caused the fall.

A coroner's office employee pronounced Davis dead at the scene.
