MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - This election day, your vote can have added value thanks to a new program from the Secretary of State's office.
The program called "Honor Vets, Vote" allows voters to dedicate their vote to a veteran or serviceman. It's a way to remind voters that those who served laid their life on the line to allow them their right.
Voters who chose to honor a vet with their vote will receive a free bumper sticker, a lapel pin, and a certificate to give to their veteran. Secretary of State Tom Schedler says he got the idea from a similar program in Iowa.
"I've tried everything in the book to try and encourage people but my latest, is to almost embarrass people to go out and vote, if for the only reason in respect to grandfather, father, niece or nephew who may be overseas fighting to give you that right." said Shedler.
