WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - 65-year-old Donna Ingram is looking over a few health plans.
"I don't feel like I'm 65 yet, except early in the mornings," Donna Ingram said.
Ingram along with several others are catching up on some changes with Medicare next year.
"I'm looking into making sure I have all the coverage that I need to stay healthy."
Now that she's retired, Ingram gets to attend more of these types of seminars. One in particular, at the West Ouachita Senior Center, is a part of a road show on Medicare. State health leaders are working with the older residents on their coverage plans.
"The deductibles have gone up for some. The formularies change every year so it's important for them to look at that as well as co-pay amounts change," Vicki Durfrene with the Louisiana Department of Insurance said.
Some seniors are preparing to loosen up the wallet a little more for their health plan and they're also keeping a close eye on Capital Hill.
"I hope we have a good health plan from now on out as long as we're older seniors, like we are," Ray Andy said.
People like 83-year-old Ray Andy and his pals in the seminar are becoming a target for thieves and Ingram has a guard up when it comes to fake health care e-mails.
"I went to a sheriff's program on scams for seniors and all, that was a good program to be offered in this area," Ingram.
Health leaders said avoid getting scammed by sending your personal information to a health company you're not familiar with.
Tuesday, October 9, 2012, health care leaders will continue speaking to seniors in our area. They'll be at the West Ouachita Senior Center starting at 9 in the morning speaking about Medicare.
