MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Hundreds of pet owners are pulling some cash out of their wallets to help other animal owners. The yearly fundraiser for the Ouachita River Valley Animal League, or ORVAL, kicked off in Forsythe Park Saturday morning. Runners took to the streets in a 5K run, followed by a blessing of the pets. The group is raising money to help low-income families with their vet bills.
"A lot of vet bills are injury related, so they're high bills. They're usually a lot of money so this is one way to help people pay for it," Erin Love, the group's secretary, said.
They also help good samaritans, who find stray animals, locate a home for them. On top of that, they help foot the bill to spay and neuter pets as well.
To find more information on how you can get involved with ORVAL, you can visit their Facebook page: ORVAL FAN PAGE.
