MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A 17-year-old from Grayson, Louisiana is dead following a two vehicle crash.  The crash happened just after 1:00 a.m. Saturday on Highway 849 south of Louisiana Highway 126.

A state police investigation reveals that Michael Woods was driving north when he passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone.   As Woods tried to re-enter the northbound lane the rear of his vehicle struck the front of the truck he was passing.  Woods lost control of the vehicle, went off the road and rolled.

State police report Woods was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected, and suffered fatal injuries.   The Caldwell Parish Coroner pronounced the 17-year-old dead at the scene.   Two other passengers in Wood's Isuzu Rodeo were wearing seatbelts and had minor injuries.   The driver in the truck, Wood's attempted to pass, 30-year-old Earnest Sandidge Jr. of Columbia was not injured.   However, police report that Sandidge was arrested for DWI and booked in the Caldwell Parish Jail.

State police say alcohol is not suspected on Wood's part, but toxicology samples were taken for analysis.  The crash is under further investigation.
