GRAND ISLE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - As the investigation continues into an apartment complex fire that took two lives in South Louisiana last week, Deputy Chief Brant Thompson of the state Fire Marshal's Office is reporting that combustible materials, including plastic containers and a plastic tarp were stored under a balcony at the complex.
He said that investigators believe that the ignition source for the fire originated there. However, Thompson also noted that they have not been able to rule out "unsafe smoking practices" as a cause and that it's possible someone smoking started the fire.
Thompson did maintain that there is no reason to believe the fire was intentionally set.
