Raising Canes' Kiroli Dog Park grand opening

Posted: Updated:

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Dog owners were showing off their dogs, and the dogs were waiting patiently all for the opening of the Raising Canes' Kiroli Dog Park.

Dog owner Regan Orman says, "I was so excited, I saw it on facebook and I had it on my calendar and I was counting down the days I couldn't wait for it to open."

Orman was one of many dog owners who came out to finally watch the ribbon get cut and the dogs run inside the new Raising Canes' Kiroli Dog Park.

Raising Canes' owner Todd Graves says there are two different gated areas, "anybody's dog is welcomed out here we actually separate, they did a great job of separating the big dogs from the little dogs, so little dogs don't get trampled, but it's for everyone even if you don't have a dog come out and check it out the dogs out here are great."

The biggest hit for the dogs and their owners seem to be the fountains where the dogs can jump in and cool off.

Orman says, "he's had a blast he's ran up and down the whole place played with all the dogs really well and he loves the water fountain which I wasn't expecting."

Everyone agrees this is good for the dogs, their owners, and the community.

Graves says, "I'm very passionate about dogs and pet welfare in general you know, I'm the guy that names his chicken finger restaurant after his dog Raising Cane and I just think that dogs parks are a great way to enhance a community."

Dog owner, Mae Prickett says, "dogs need to be socialized because if they're not socialized that's what usually makes them mean because they're scared they don't know what's normal and if they see other dogs on a regular basis, they have a tenancy to be more tolerate of other dogs."

Dog owner Robert Lafiette says, "it's good for the community, it brings pet lovers out to share a common bond, you can meet some great people with their animals and the people themselves."

This park is an off leash dog park which allows the dogs to be able to run freely, and it's open to anyone.

The registration fee is $5 per dog if you're an annual Kiroli Park Pass Holder, and $10 if you're not.

Forms are available at the gate house.
