MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Toy animals and even a real one took over a local school Monday.

Lady of Fatima students got to bring their favorite stuffed animals in for the day. It's part of a lesson teaching students about the patron saint of animals, St. Francis. ULM's real life mascot Capri was a special guest. The hawk was given a special blessing of good luck.

"Today is a very special day because our war hawks are doing really well this year and we wanted to include them in our blessing. So we're asking the zoo to bring the red tail hawk to be blessed for our ULM games." said Lady of Fatima religion teacher Jamie Humphrey.

The kids got to participate in a question and answer session about the bird. The most unusual question? Does the hawk swim under water? In case you were wondering the answer is no.
