LSU to switch to an "adjusted" grading system?

Posted: Updated:

BATON ROUGE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - On a 26-14 vote, the LSU Faculty Senate has approved a resolution to recommend the university switch to a new student grading system that awards different scores for "plus and minus" letter grades.

The vote passed despite opposition from the LSU Student Government, argues that a new incremental grading system could hurt "borderline" students.

Another potential problem is that the proposal gives professors the option of not using the new grading system, leading some to believe the university would be introducing inconsistency into the grading system.

Ostensibly, the vote ends a debate that's been going on among the LSU faculty for most of this year.
